Grab and Gojek Asked to Re-open Features Passengers Transport After PSBB

Association of Indonesia online motorcycle taxi (ojol) The Garda Indonesia, hopes Gojek and Grab will reactivate their passenger transport feature when the third phase of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) in DKI Jakarta ends on June 4. Gojek and Grab decided to turn off the passenger transport feature in their respective applications in areas that implemented the PSBB. This makes ojol drivers only able to take advantage of the apps features by delivering food and goods.

Chairperson of the Garda Indonesia, Igun Wicaksono, said that his party and ojol partners had never agreed with the decision to temporarily suspend features between passengers. He said it had an impact on reducing income.

"We hope that with the end of the third PSBB, the passenger service feature can be reactivated so that the income of ojol drivers can slowly return to normal," Igun said when contacted by CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (5/25).

Igun explained that there was a drastic decline in income in the regions that applied the PSBB, between 70-90 percent. He also said the increase in shipments of goods and food delivery during the PSBB was not significant.

"Service delivery of goods and food delivery only contributed 10-20 percent increase, not significant. So some ojol drivers are looking for alternative income,” said Igun.

Gojek and Grab have not yet responded to the policy regarding reactivation of features between passengers after the third phase of PSBB in Jakarta ended. DKI Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan has extended PSBB in Jakarta until June 4 to break the local community infection of Covid-19. The implementation of the third phase is expected to be the last but can be extended if needed.

Anies claimed that during the first phase of the PSBB from April 10 to the second phase which ended on May 22, the spread of the corona virus in the capital began to decline.
