Got a lot of criticism, Sultan of Brunei returned a degree from an oxford university

After 120,000 people signed a petition asking the University of Oxford to take the title of honor given to the Sultan of Brunei. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah finally decided to return the title to Oxford University. The petition was made after he planned to give the LGBT death penalty on April. The form of punishment will be given in the form of throwing stones at the suspect to death. The criticism was also given by artists Elton John and George Clooney.

To dampen these criticisms, Sultan Bolkiah announced the death penalty would not be applied earlier this month. He also decided to return the title given to Oxford University.

Responding to this petition, Oxford University said it was conducting a review of reviews and writing to Sultan Bolkiah on April 26. They ask for his views no later than June 7, 2019.

Even so, the Sultan will still maintain to implement sharia law even though he has announced the existence of a moratorium containing an extension of the delay in the enforcement of the rules. Sultan Bolkiah said he understood if there were many questions and misperceptions regarding the law called the Sharia Criminal Code (SPCO). According to him, however, after this misperception and question can be clarified, this law can be enforced strongly.
