Good Side of Technology: Apple Watch saves a life in US

While the world believes that invasion of privacy by technology is bad, it saves a life. A story from an American man who was saved by his Apple. No, not that apple, but technological “Apple”. While knocked unconscious after falling from his bike, Apple Watch does its heroic job.

Meet Bob Burdett, a 62-year-old American man residing in South Hill. On Sunday (15/9) last week, Burdett was enjoying an afternoon bicycling at Riverside River Park in Washington and supposed to regroup with his son, Gabe, at 12.30 pm local time.

The relaxed ride turned into a doomsday at the Doomsday Hill for Burdett when he could not control his bike at a turn, and he was overwhelmed. Although his head was helmeted, the fall rendered the 62-year-old unconscious. Burdett later claimed that if the helmet had not been there, he would have kicked the bucket.

Burdett would never think that buying an Apple Watch would be a good idea. However, that was when his Apple Watch’s “Hard Fall” detection system sent an emergency message to Gabe and the pinpoint location of the injured father. Gabe took less than 30 minutes to drive to the location given by the Watch. However, Burdett’s body was nowhere to be found. He was told that his father had been taken to the hospital and the bike had been taken to the fire department station.

It turned out Apple Watch did go extra miles. Under 30 minutes, Apple Watch also contacted 911, a task that could not be performed by the injured Burdett. After a series of CT-Scan and X-Ray, Burdett only suffered bruises at his head, and no severe injury was found. Only a cut at the upper left of his eyebrows and a swollen eye.

Gabe praised the Watch endlessly for its remarkable feature, noting its fast response and accuracy even in the remotest area. While retelling the story in his Facebook post, Gabe also urged every Apple Watch user to activate the “Hard Fall” detection system. The post went viral.
