Gojek ties partnership with LinkAja e-wallet as an alternative to Go-Pay

One of Indonesia’s Unicorns GOJEK made a surprising move in the e-wallet industry by tying a partnership with its rival and newcomer LinkAja which is a digital payment platform supported by the government.

LinkAja is going to be an alternative of GO-Pay, Gojek’s e-payment platform and it is expected the payment option will available on the GOJEK app this year.

With a commitment “from Indonesia to Indonesia”, the state-owned enterprises e-payment platform officially introduced its services at the beginning of July.

Andre Soelistyo, President of GOJEK said in an official statement that Gojek always believes if collaboration and implementation of an open ecosystem with all actors who have one shared goal as the works of the children of the nation would bring positive impacts to more people.

LinkAja not only works together with GOJEK but also with local e-commerce companies Tokopedia and Bukalapak to facilitate the online transaction on their platforms.

The trend of using e-payment is rapidly growing in Indonesia although transactions by cash are still 99 percent, according to management consultancy Mc Kinsey and Company.

Today, several companies launch their own digital wallet platforms, but GO-Pay - the leading of e-payment platform in Indonesia and its competitor Grab’s OVO are the two biggest players who dominate digital payment market in the country.

According to Redseer report, Indonesia e-wallet market will increase from US$1.5 billion in 2018 to US$25 billion in 2023.
