Gojek receives a fresh investment from Mitsubishi Motor Corporation

The Japanese multinational automaker, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) released information that the company together with Mitsubishi Corporation are investing in GOJEK, an Indonesia-based ride-hailing unicorn.

The total amount of recent investment is disclosed by the company.

Mitsubishi and Gojek have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to talk over collaboration projects to generate value from new mobility services in Southeast Asia. By giving the fresh investment, the Japanese company will allow catching on GOJEK’s expertise and existence in the mobility consumer services market in the region.

Although the investment is going for Gojek’s ongoing Series F funding round, the ride-hailing company emphasized that founders remain to have the power to control the company’s decision and provisions.

The news of the Mitsubishi group’s investment has been informed by Gojek since five months ago. As Gojek started its first stage of Series F funding in February 2019, it was reported that the company targeted on increasing $2 billion, with which involved some investors including Mitsubishi Corporation and Provident Capital.

The investment was for market penetration in Indonesia and expanding business in Southeast Asia, according to GOJEK,

Osamu Masuko, the Chairman of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation said that the company expects the creation of innovation and large cooperative interactions that will advance the growth of the three parties because of Gojek has diversified and unique business potential and Mitsubishi has brand power and known for its long and strong existence of in Southeast Asia.

Mitsubishi Motors and Mitsubishi Corporation will utilize the GOJEK platform, as well as study opportunities for new various mobility services since both of the Japanese companies, have focus competitiveness in Southeast Asia.

President of GOJEK Group Andre Soelistyo said that the investment is a commitment for the company to keep growing its products and services as well as to make better of people’s lives in the region by using technology.

Gojek has shown its power as one of the Unicorns in Southeast Asia. Starting from merely an app for transportation, now the company offers various services such as, food delivery, shopping, cleaning and e-wallet which swiftly broadening in Southeast Asian countries.
