Going to Resign, British Prime Minister is Emotionally Sorrowful

United Kingdom – During her speech in front of her official residence at Downing Street on Friday (24/5) morning, Theresa May, The Leader of the Conservative Party as well as the British Prime Minister, announced that she will resign from her current position. It is reported that this has been and will always be her deepest regret because she has not been able to complete the Brexit process (the UK left the European Union).

May said with her hoarse voice and grim face, that she will resign as the Conservative Party Leader on Friday, June 7 and the process of selecting a new leader must begin after the following week immediately.

However, before announcing her resignation, May has met with the 1922 Conservative Committee. The committee had the mandate to decide on the term of office of the prime minister and determine her resignation. The Treasurer of the 1922 Committee, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, said May will remain as PM meanwhile the council choosing her successor.

Ever since May took over the power, she promised to bring Britain out of the European Union and reunite the government. However, May's road is not that smooth. Unfortunately, May repeatedly experienced a leadership crisis until she has no confidence because her cabinet and parliament continued to dispute over the Brexit negotiation process.

The stronghold of the government and opposition in the UK still has not reached a meeting point that must be reached with the European Union before the British leave the block.

On the one hand, May wants Britain to continue to have trade relations with the European Union when it is officially announced while the opposition insists that their country really cut ties with the block, making different and hard opinions.

According to AFP, May's resignation marked the selection of prospective successors began. The process is expected to last for six weeks to search for a new leader.
