Germany, Singapore, and S. Korea among the lowest in COVID-19-related mortality

The number of global mortality due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic outbreak has reached over 37,000 and is expected to rise due to its outbreak in at least 150 countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) recorded a 4.8 percent global mortality rate from the 786,973 global COVID-19 cases.

Fortunately, the number of recoveries is bigger than its mortality rate, reaching 165,932 people, making 21.07 percent from the cases.

Currently, the United States (U.S), Italy, and Spain recorded a mortality rate even higher than China, the country where the virus was originated. Meanwhile, there are three countries that recorded the smallest number of mortality.

1. Singapore.
The ASEAN country recorded only 0.34 percent of mortality rate from the cases which saw three deaths from 879 cases. The number of cases in Singapore is also relatively low compare to its neighbor. Since January, the Singaporean Government closed the accesses to its country.

The current Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, faced COVID-19 the same way as Singapore faced SARS in 2003. In a day, more than 2,000 people underwent rapid tests. Lee also said that the Government maintains the trust of its people by being transparent about any news. It also implements strict measures such as fining those who dare go out amid the self-quarantine period.

2. Germany.
While having at 67,788 positive cases on the land, making it into the top 5, the number of mortality is relatively low at only 0.96 percent. That means from the number, only 648 deaths and 17,220 people recovered.

The experts said that the rapid test done in the country is by far the best compared to its neighbor, Italy and Spain. Therefore, Germany is ready to record the number of COVID-19 patients as accurately as possible. Private enterprises in Germany also produce around 1.4 million test equipment.

3. S. Korea
S. Korea recorded the highest number of infections in outer China. However, the mortality rate went as low as 1.65 percent from the 9,786 cases. That means, only 162 deaths and 5,408 people recovered.

The country relies on its cheap and advanced rapid tests. In a day, 20,000 tests are done. For those who were exposed to COVID-19, the test is even free! The access for a medical consultation is also eased.
