Gasoline retail prices rise for the second consecutive week in hopes that the U.S. and European economies will pick up

The national average retail price of regular gasoline this week was 154.5 yen per liter, up 1.6 yen from last week. This is the second consecutive week of price increases and the highest level in two years and seven months.

According to the Japan Petroleum Information Center, which conducts gasoline price surveys on behalf of the government, the national average retail price of regular gasoline as of April 14 was 154.5 yen per liter, up 1.6 yen from last week.

The price increase is the second consecutive week and the highest level in two years and seven months since November 2018.

This is due to the continued rise in crude oil prices on expectations that the economy will pick up as vaccinations for the new coronavirus advance in the United States and Europe.

As for the outlook for the future, the Oil Information Center said, "Crude oil prices continue to rise, and gasoline prices next week will probably reflect this trend.
