G20 Countries Agree on Covid-19 Vaccine Development Cooperation

The G20 countries agreed to cooperate in the development of vaccines and Covid-19 medicines that are easily accessible and affordable. In addition, the G20 also agreed on cooperation to accelerate global economic recovery.

The agreement was revealed in the 2nd Extraordinary G20 Sherpa virtual meeting which was held last Friday (24/7).

Deputy for the Coordination of International Economic Cooperation, Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Rizal Affandi Lukman, explained that the meeting discussed the development of handling Covid-19. Rizal himself acted as a Sherpa G20 Indonesia fiber participating in the meeting.

On that occasion, Rizal conveyed a number of extraordinary steps taken by Indonesia to deal with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"From the health aspect, Indonesia continues to encourage increased cooperation in the context of vaccine discovery and distribution of medicines that are easily affordable and accessible to all levels of society," he said quoted from an official statement, Sunday (7/26).

In line with health care, continued Rizal, the government also paid attention to aspects of national economic recovery. This is done in order to protect and maintain the stability of the national economy, through the distribution of social assistance to affected citizens and enhancing the ability of entrepreneurs in the real sector and the financial sector.

This meeting was chaired by the Saudi G20 Sherpa who holds the G20 presidency this year. The meeting was also attended by all G20 country Sherpas, as well as representatives from regional and international financial and development cooperation organizations and institutions.
