From E-TLE to bodycam, technology covers Indonesian driving safety

On Thursday, Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) introduced another new tech for the making and of the driver's license (SIM). The technology is named Electronic Driving Test System (E-DRIVES). The tech aims to assess and determine whether one is eligible to receive his/her SIM.

The chief of Polda Metro Jaya, Insp. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono, stated that E-DRIVES will assess the eligibility of the SIM applicants through certain devices such as sensors, radiofrequency, and soundwave emission which are placed in certain locations on the test site.

For Gatot, computerization means more transparency and accuracy.

The data gathered from E-DRIVES will be compiled into statistics that determine whether the applicants should or should not receive their SIMs. The real-time data can also be viewed by the field assessors and applicants from their tablet or monitor simultaneously.

Currently, E-DRIVES is only available in Polda Metro Jaya. Gatot said that the system will soon be implemented to all precincts within the Metropolitan region. For now, E-DRIVES only assesses applicants for Class A (car) and C (motorcycle).

Not only E-DRIVES but Polda Metro Jaya also introduced the portable version of Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (E-TLE) with movable cameras. Gatot said that the movable cameras can be installed in the area with a high possibility of traffic violations, however yet to be reached by E-TLE's CCTVs.

Bodycam was also introduced by Polda Metro Jaya. As its name, the camera is installed in the suit of the police officers. The bodycam is equipped with GPS, a 2-way talk, and a panic button. Gatot said that the bodycam acts as the “supervisor” for both police officers and traffic violators.
