French Open tennis organizers reject Japan's Kato Miyu's appeal

Japanese tennis player Kato Miyu says the organizers of the French Open have rejected her appeal against disqualification from the women's doubles. She hit a ball girl with a shot that Kato says was unintentional.

In the third round match on June 4, Kato and her doubles partner were disqualified after a ball she hit into the opposite side of the court struck the girl. Officials said it was a dangerous act.

Kato lodged an appeal against the organizers of the Grand Slam tournament, asking for her prize money and the points from the event to be reinstated.

Kato wrote on social media on Thursday that the French Open organizers fined her, and her appeal has been rejected. She added that all she can do is keep looking forwards.

After being disqualified from the women's doubles, Kato won the mixed doubles championship with her German partner Tim Puetz for her first Grand Slam title.
