Former Empress Michiko's Current Condition

Earlier this week, it was reported that former Empress Michiko will undergo a heart examination. Her problem with heart started back in 2015, where she had her tomography scan. Due to the tomography scan’s result, she does medical check-up and blood test regularly to control her health.

However, earlier this year, Empress Michiko would have shortness of breath after her daily morning walk. When she had her annual blood test, the result showed there is something wrong with her heart. The blood test result showed that she has a higher risk of heart failure.

The officials have previously said that Empress Michiko will be doing a heart examination at the Imperial Household Hospital. She has done the examination. It turned out that Empress Michiko has heart valve abnormalities and an irregular pulse.

Empress Michiko does not only have heart problem, but she also has eyes problem. Therefore, Empress Michiko is planning to have cataract operation after her return from Kyoto. It is said that she will have it twice (one side at a time). The first operation will be on June 16 and the second one will be on June 23.

Although she has been diagnosed with heart valve abnormalities and has to do cataract operation, she is still able to accompany her husband in Kyoto. She is there because her husband has some abdication rituals to attend.
