Foreign Minister Motegi appeals for UN Security Council reform
On the 22nd, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a video message from Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi at a high-ranking meeting held at the United Nations in New York to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. Mr. Mogi called for reforms such as expanding the number of members of the UN Security Council, and said, "Japan is determined to contribute to the realization of a peaceful international community as a permanent member."
Mr. Mogi argues that the current Security Council has not fully fulfilled the purposes stipulated in the UN Charter. "A country with the capacity to bear heavy responsibilities should occupy a seat in the expanded Security Council," he stated firmly.
He also touched on the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which also celebrated 75 years, and said that Japan would spare no effort to avoid repeating the war.
