Flights from Russia to Georgia are stopped, What did Putin Say?

Moscow, Russia - Apparently, starting from July 8, 2019 there will be no flight from Russia to Georgia as Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Friday (6/21) regarding a ban on Russian airlines flying to Georgia. Travel agents are also recommended to postpone visits to Georgia from Russia, according to Kremlin.

It is reported that previously, thousands of Georgians stormed the country's parliament building during a general meeting as they opposed the speech delivered by a member of the Russian parliament. Therefore, this decision is a result of a fierce clash in Georgia over a Moscow MP who was allowed to speak in parliament in Tbilisi.

Speeches by members of the Russian parliament, Sergei Gavrilov, in front of delegates made some protests in Georgia. Gavrilov participated in the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly for Orthodoxy (IAO). This institution was formed by the Greek parliament in 1993 to foster relations between Orthodox Christian parliamentarians.

Currently, Russia and Georgia are fighting over two regions in Georgia, which are Abkhazia and South Ossetia which were occupied by Russia in 2008. This is also one of the reasons behind the tension between the two countries.

However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the move was intended to protect Russian citizens' security as the situation in Georgia should be normalized and any threats to the security of the citizens should vanish.
