Final verdict, Google fires 4 employees, including Rebecca Waters

On Monday, a report came that Google has fired four employees. One of them was Rebecca Waters, who joined a protest by around 200 Googlers on Friday last week in Google’s San Francisco headquarters. As a matter of fact, Friday’s protest aimed to bring back two Googlers, Rebecca Waters and Laurence Berland, who were put under administration leaves by Google.

Turned out, Google did not take heed of their demand. Waters, a former software engineer at Google who once joined the protest went against Google’s collaboration with the United States (U.S) Custom and Border Protection (CBP), tweeted on Monday about her work termination with Google.

Google fired these four Googlers due to the “clear and repeated violations of our data security policies”. However, when inquired about the case, Google declined to delineate further. Waters, one of the employees pointed by Google for doing the illicit act, denied that she had accessed nor shared classified Google internal documents.

Other Googlers, both former and current, accused the company of retaliating against its own employees for standing on their opinions. Some employees called the firing as an inhumane, illegal retaliation, and called for other Googlers to fight for what is right.

The Googlers are irritated by the fact that Google is no longer supporting freedom of speech for its employees. Recently, Google announced that it ended the TGIF meetings and hiring an anti-worker union consultant. Furthermore, Googlers stood against the company's collaboration and how it handled issues within its organization.
