FIFA Vice President Interrogated

PARIS - Old case for old politician. On Thursday (6/6) at local time, before the commencement of 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Paris, France,  Ahmad Ahmad, Vice President of FIFA, was arrested to be interogated at L'Office Central de Lutte Contre la Corruption et les Infractions Financières et Fiscales (OCLCIFF).

This interrogation was part of investigation regarding embezzlement made by his former deputy, Amr Fahmy, when Ahmad was pointed as President of Confederation of African Football in 2017; in addition, he was a former President of Malagasy Football Federation (MFF) as well.

However, FIFA did not specify or release official statement regarding the detaining or at least they are following the investigation further. One thing for sure, FIFA does not tolerate any kind of embezzlement or corruption.

“FIFA is inquiring French authorities regarding the questioning to the President of CAF. As FIFA, we condemn any crime, especially embezzlement or corruption. Therefore, no one with such criminal record has a place in FIFA body,” said Gianni Infantino, as President of FIFA.

Ahmad himself denied any involvement in the corruption case. On Wednesday (5/6), he called for press conference to clarify regarding the case.

“I don’t want to wash dirty clothes in public,” said Ahmad in the press conference.

The corruption was allegedly due to a broken contract between CAF and Puma. Aftermath the severity, CAF made contract with Technical Steel; thus, the corruption allegation began.
