Feeling Threatened, US asked China to Stop Taking Sovereignty of Other Countries

Singapore - US Secretary of Defense, Patrick Shanahan at the Shangri-La Dialogue forum held in Singapore on Saturday (06/01) said that, The United States government has reminded China not to threaten the sovereignty of its neighboring countries and that US is currently investing in new military technology in the next five years to keep Asia stable. The forum that discussed security issues was followed by defense ministers and high-ranking military officials from around the world.

Shanahan also said in the forum as reported by the AFP news agency that, China can and must have a cooperative relationship with the entire region, however, the behavior that erodes the sovereignty of other countries and sows distrust of China's intentions must end.

He also mentioned that until that happens, they're opposing a vision that is shortsighted, narrow, and narrow, and we support a free and open order that has benefited us all, including China.

Chinese Defense Minister General Wei Fenghe was also present at the conference. It is reported that this is the first time since 2011 that China has sent an official to the meeting. Wei is scheduled to give a speech on Sunday (2/6) to respond to Shanahan's statement.

This meeting also discussed some issues about Washington and Beijing that have been competing to gain influence in the Asian region, which has potentially hot spots such as the South China Sea, the Korean Peninsula and the Taiwan Strait and other international territorial waters issues.
