Euthanasia is legal in Belgium and the Netherlands since 2002

A group offering ‘suicide power’ is under Belgium’s investigation

A right-to-die group that has been offering ‘suicide power’ is under the Belgian prosecutor’s investigation.

The Dutch authorities have blocked the Last Will group from helping 1,000 people from purchasing the lethal drug. The Last Will group has 23,000 paying members with an average age of 69. The investigation into the group’s activities was opened in the prosecutor’s office in East Flanders. The focus of the meeting with the group’s Belgian branch was the lethal substance that is being promoted.

Belgium and Netherlands legalize Euthanasia by doctors when patients have shown unbearable suffering and have made repeated requests to die. The law was established in 2002 in Belgium and liberalized it in 2014 to be the only country in the world to allow euthanasia of children.  On the other hand, the campaigners insist that the involvement of a doctor is an interdiction on those who wish to end their life.

The Last Will group was advised last March that it would be breaking Dutch law if it keeps their plans to assist 1,000 people to kill themselves by providing “material help”. The Netherlands law is similar to Belgian law in criminalizing those who help to purchase lethal drug to kill themselves.
