The History of the Name “Archie”

BERKSHIRE - Duke and Duchess of Sussex (Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) have already shaken the world by their baby, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Call him “Archie” for short. The royal baby was presented for the first time to the world on Thursday (9/5). At that time, the world was still guessing the name for the baby.

Turned out, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided that they would go with the name “Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor”. Not really an easy name to remember. But, at least, we can go with “Archie”. Despite the revelation and presentation of the baby, the question was “Why Archie? Why not Richard? Kyle? William? Charles?”.

For Prince Harry, the name Archie has its own special meaning. When Prince Harry was in the military duty at the Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst, there was a man who helped him to go to the battleground in Iraq The name of the man was Mayor Tom Archer-Burton. For Harry’s military acquintances, they already knew that the baby’s name is an ode to the Mayor.

For Harry, Mayor Archie was one of the major icons who saved his life from going backward. So special that he was invited to attend the Duke & Duchess wedding, and sat almost on an exclusive spot to see the two closely.

When Prince Harry could not go to Iraq in 2007, he was about to leave the army. That was when Mayor Archie intervened. He secretly persuaded Harry to stay, and deploy him secretly, out of camera and press. By doing this, hence, the man himself saved Harry’s military career. By the time the press found out, Prince Harry already served his mission for 2 months in Afghanistan.

Hence, the Duke honored him by naming his baby after the Mayor. And that, folk, is how the cookie crumbles. Now, they lived happily ever after.
