One Sentence in “Our Father” Translated Prayer is Changed by Pope Francis

Rome, Italy - According to The Guardian, Pope Francis took the risk of igniting the anger of the traditionalists by agreeing the change in the one-sentence translation of Our Father Prayer, from "do not bring us into temptation" to "do not let us fall into temptation." This new translation sentence will appear in the third edition of the Messale Romano, a liturgical book containing a guide to the worship of the Catholic Church in Rome. The new translation will only apply to Italian dioceses.

The change in the sentence has agreed during the general meeting of the Italian Episcopal Conference last month. However, this new translation is not surprising considering that in 2017 Pope Francis once said that sentence should indeed be changed.

Pope Francis said that, the reason for the change is because the translation was not good as it spoke like God was the one who invited temptation. We are the ones who fall into temptation. It is not He who drives us into temptation, because a Father will not do it. A Father will immediately help you rise. It is Satan who brings into temptation as it is his duty.

However, The Catholic Church in England and Wales said they have no plan to change the translation in English. A spokesman said that, Our Father Prayer has been changed in Italian, there is currently no plan to change it to English as every language must learn to understand its particular meaning and understanding of the language, and he is sure there must be a consultation with English-speaking countries

Our Father Prayer refers to the prayer found in the New Testament in the Bible, Matthew 6: 9-13, and taught by Jesus Christ when he was asked by his students how they should pray and as the first prayer taught to children and spoken in every Catholic service throughout the world to pray to Father.
