Experts: Using mask while being free of COVID-19 is ineffective

It is a common misunderstanding that wearing masks to protect oneself from disease, especially amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Even worse, people bought masks and hoarded them to be sold back at an astronomical price. The effect is the supply of masks is running out.

However, through an official statement, the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not recommend healthy people wear a mask to prevent COVID-19. Moreover, the concept worsens the infection.

According to the CDC, a mask is recommended for people showing COVID-19 symptoms in order to prevent human-to-human infection. It is also recommended for the medical team and those who treat the infected or suspect at the health centers.

For healthy people, wearing masks exposes them to a worse infection. Even worse if the wearing is not according to the correct procedures. There is no scientific proof that wearing masks while being healthy could protect oneself from infection.

CDC noted that people wearing masks touch their faces more often. It exposes them to further infection.

If one wants to be protected from COVID-19, they are advised to regularly wash their hands, stay indoors, and avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth. If there is no soap or water, use a 60% alcohol hand sanitizer.

Moreover, keep a healthy lifestyle with a balanced meal, hydration, and enough rest.
