Experts: Riding car for too long is cancerous

People often opt for a car to reach their destination faster and more comfortably than a motorcycle. However, a new finding stated that sitting in a car for too long might expose silent dangers.

In the 2011 study published in the Environmental International journal, scientists from the University of California pointed out that the foam in the car’s seat contains carcinogenic compounds such as trisphosphate (TDCIPP).

TDCIPP is registered as a dangerous compound as it might trigger cancer and other health issues. Even then, the car manufacturers still use TDCIPP to produce car seats. A long term exposure to TDCIPP may render a person impotent.

The scientists exposed the zebrafish embryos to TDCIPP. The result was that the chemical compound may intervene with the normal growth of the embryo. Another similar research also noted that TDCIPP’s exposure may result in infertility.

For further experiments, the scientists verified about a certain amount of TDCIPP on 88 participants who spent 15 – 120 minutes in the car per day. The participants are required to wear silicone wristbands to catch air molecules, as TDCIPP molecules float freely in the air. TDCIPP molecules caught by the wristband were quite significant in number.

However, the scientists concluded that the finding required further studies and suggested the car drivers clean their vehicles regularly to avoid chemical poisoning.
