Can SARS-CoV-2 be transmitted via fart? (Image via BBC Science Focus)

Experts: No, fart will not spread SARS-CoV-2

Previously, an Australian doctor, Andy Tagg, stated a controversial statement. He said that the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) could be transmitted by fart, after a series of tests on the patients tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to Tagg’s finding, 55 percent of COVID-19 patients’ feces contained SARS-CoV-2. Therefore, Tagg concluded that fart also contains the residue of the virus that caused COVID-19. To avoid controversies, Tagg said that more evidence is needed. However, is it true that COVID-19 can be transmitted by fart?

Of course, international doctors disagreed. According to the Clinical Director of Patientaccess.com, Sarah Jarvis, there is a little possibility that SARS-CoV-2 can be transmitted by a fart. Jarvis said that SARS-CoV-2 is still transmitted through droplets from sneeze and cough falling onto your nose, eyes, mouth, and the surface of things.

Moreover, the other doctors also said that people should not worry about the fart. Frankly speaking, since your rear end is covered, more likely, the fart will do nothing more than hurting your nose. Speaking on ABC’s COVID-19-dedicated podcast, Coronacast, Dr. Norman Swan confirmed the statement.

China’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also supported Swan’s statement. Pants are effective to filter gas which was said to transmit SARS-CoV-2.
