Experts: Cloth mask can prevent virus by 70%

The Indonesian Government educated the people regarding mask usage. One of the members of the task force against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Wiku Adisasmito, explained the usage of the three-layer mask.

Wiku said that the cloth mask can suppress the transmission of the virus. However, it is not optimal. Speaking through a teleconference feed on Sunday, Wiku said that the cloth mask can prevent the virus by 70 percent. However, the minimum distance of 1 – 2 meters is required still.

As the virus is even hard to see with a microscope, Wiku warned the Indonesian people to keep practicing physical distancing which means no going out or get together for a while, except for essential reasons.

He also instructed the people on how to use the cloth mask. Wiku instructed that the mask should cover the nose to chin. You still cannot use the same mask over and over again, said Wiku. The usage and the model can be adapted to the facial feature to assure comfort and safety.

You can wash it, but still, it should be replaced once in a while.

Wiku added that the mask usage is essential to cover the three gates where COVID-19 can enter: mouth, eyes, and nose. He also appreciated those who distribute masks for free and remind the people of using masks when necessary.
