Experts: Bullying against Children with ASD Gets Worse with Time

Xenophobia starts in the early age, and in early education stage. The idea of bullying starts with concept of wanting to be seen as alpha person. Or else, he/she bullies other because he/she craves for attention, and when he/she does not get it, he/she lashes the anger upon the timid individuals. At least, that is how the psychologist maps it.

However, what about children with special needs? Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) certainly makes a child looks, sounds, and behaves in his/her own “unique” way. Nonetheless, this is also a problem.

Graduate students at Binghamton University of State University of New York explained that children with ASD were more prone to bullying, and this bullying only got worsened through time. Through their research, they tabulated how bullying against children with ASD varies and how is it different with ordinary bullying.

This research would later be used as parameter to compare the severity of bullying between children with ASD and without ASD.

The results showed that as their age turns, the severity of the bullying also increases. For example, if once the bullying was restricted to verbal, it could develop into physical. However, the result also delineated that the cause of bullying remains the same: problem inside the house.

While the research stated the obvious, the whole world acknowledges the danger of bullying. Bullying, although it seems simple, leads to depression and social anxiety. Even more, it causes trauma to the victims.

We verily condemn bullying, and we see that it has to be stopped right at the start, before it gets worsened.
