Ex-top Farm Ministry Official Says Kawasaki Attack Prompted His Murder of Son

TOKYO – A former top bureaucrat of the farm ministry was arrested on the weekend. He was arrested after murdering his son. However, he told the investigator that the mass stabbing in Kawasaki last week prompted the killing.

Hideaki Kumazawa, 76, revealed to the investigators that he thought his son might harm others. The idea occurred due to the mass stabbing in Kawasaki. The police revealed that Ryuici Iwasaki, the suspect, was a social recluse and killed two as well as injured dozens.

Kumazawa stated that his 44-year-old son Eiichiro is also sort of a recluse, as he withdrawn from social life and exhibited violent behavior to his parents. Kumazawa also left a note at his home, which says that his plan of murdering his son. Later on, Eiichiro was found with a dozen wounds in his upper body including chest and abdomen.

Sources said that Eiichiro had been living in Tokyo for more than 10 years before going back to his parents’ house, also in Tokyo, in May. While living apart, Eiichiro was seen having arguments with neighbors over ways to take out garbage.

On the day of the incident, Eiichiro had a heated debate with his father. Eiichiro was angry over noise from an athletic meet at a nearby elementary school. Kumazawa was worried that his son would kill the children and danger the neighbors, just like what happened at the Kawasaki attack.

Kumazawa then killed his son at around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and turned himself to the police. Eiichiro was found collapsed but confirmed dead after taken to a hospital.
