Evacuation orders issued in Shizuoka Prefecture

Local authorities in Shizuoka Prefecture in central Japan have issued evacuation orders to parts of two cities where heavy rain has increased the risk of landslides.

Officials in Shizuoka City issued the orders for the districts of Aoi, Suruga and Shimizu as of 9:31 a.m. Wednesday. They apply to 382,326 residents from 165,803 households.

Fuji City issued an evacuation order at 9:05 a.m., covering 6,173 residents from 2,680 households in landslide alert areas.

In both cities, the orders represent the second highest alert level on a scale of five. Everyone subject to the orders is being urged to leave areas at risk of landslides.
