English Teacher Spares Not Hands on Children in Japan

FUKUOKA – You may not spare your rod, but please do spare your hands. Children who grow with violence or traumatic experience in their childhood bring it as their weight, as they are walking on their life. It is an experience one cannot forget about.

In education, punishments from a teacher seems to be ranging from writing 100 sentences to standing in a hallway with buckets of water in your both hands. While physical punishment such as slapping is not uncommon, but at a daycare it is uncommon and outrageous.

From series of violent abuse at daycare, a violent incident occurred at a day-care facility in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, when a Canadian English instructor – who had been working for 5 years at the day-care -- spanked a 2-year old children in class. On the contrary to the mild Canadian composition, this instructor seems to be mentally challenged as he slapped the boy at the lower body and forced him to sit back while the boy was bawling his eyes out.

Recorded on a video and uploaded on YouTube, the boy seemed to be playing with the other boy by pulling his sleeves, which was seen as problem by the instructor and he dealt with the incident spanking the boy hard. The boy then started crying.

Funny thing was after he (yes, the English instructor is a male) spanked the boy, he asked him in English – yes, English to Japanese 2-year old boy – “Why did you do that?” Then, he asked “Are you okay?” to the boy who was sitting besides the boy who got spanked. It seemed that the instructor somehow realized that he was being secretly recorded, judging by the sudden change of course of action.

To much surprise, this is not the only case involving the Canadian. On a regular basis, he often forcibly takes away children’s toys, and shoves books into their mouth. This, surely, leaves a bad taste in their mouth and in their memories.

On 14 May to the fortune of the kiddies, the day-care fired the instructor permanently. Turned out the information regarding the violent actions had been sent to the officials since April through, yet the daycare denied it. But with this video as clear, strong evidence, the Canadian found it hard to slip free.
