Speaking in Pontianak, Kalimantan, the head of Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), M. Fanshurullah Asa, predicted on Monday that the energy demand in the new capital of Indonesia in Kalimantan Island went by 92 percent, from 675,21 - 696,40 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) in Jakarta to 1.214 MMSCFDs.Therefore, Asa pointed out the importance of the synergy of the construction of the Trans Kalimantan natural gas pipeline, as planned by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The pipeline will span at 2,219km from Bontang to Pontianak.
The pipeline will distribute natural gas from Bontang, East Kalimantan, to cater to the needs of the people in Kalimantan Island.
Speaking on the sideline of the Forum Group Discussion in Pontianak Moeldoko, Chief of Staff of Presidency for President Joko Widodo, generally known as Jokowi, projected that the project will take around Rp30 – 35 trillion. The construction of the Trans Kalimantan natural gas pipeline is said to align with Jokowi’s infrastructure aspect in realizing five aspects for “Indonesia for All”.
Besides the Trans Kalimantan pipeline, a plan for a Special Economic Zone (KEK) and Industrial Zone (KI) in Kalimantan Island is also considered effective in increasing local gas absorption, including the construction of the gas network.
