With the rapid development and evolution of internet of everything, internet has become a daily need, not just a means of entertainment. The emergence of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and many more creates a new communication rhythms and patterns.

However, with new ground comes new phenomenon and challenges. One of these challenges is the phenomenon of “oversharing” moments through these platforms. The aim is, indeed, to share and cherish our moments with our friends and connection on the social media (or else?). But, what if the aim shifts, from enjoying the moment to “competing the moment”?

Nowadays, people no longer want to hold anything a secret, even though they intend it to be secretive, by sharing the details of almost every second to minute of their lives onto these social platforms.

For what reason? According to The Huffington Post, there are 3 main reasons of why people tend to “overshare” their moments on the social media platforms.

One is because they are bored and have nothing to do. Second is because they develop narcissistic personality. They think that they are superstars and the world needs to keep up to date with their daily activities. The second point could lead to the third, low self-esteem.

Person with low self-esteem could overshare their moments on social media because they seek attention that they could not get due to their self-esteem. By hiding behind username and comments, they want to seek false sense of validation and certainty. In what form? “Followers and friends”.

Does this kind of lifestyle bring happiness to us all? Certainly not. That is why we called it “false sense of validation and certainty”. You could only get it now which will disappear into thin air later.

In order to tackle this issue, we suggest you to do the counterpart of these 3 reasons.

If you are bored or have nothing to do, spend your time more outside. Life is worth more than just staying in your room and there are plenty to discover outside.

Then, if you have an issue and you feel the need to share it, we recommend you to ponder it over. Especially, it comes to family issue. Family issue is something you should keep inside. Think before spreading it to these people that you do not know. What if your family member sees it? The issue gets worse, right? So, keep it to yourselves or share it with someone you trust for solution.

The last recommendation is that “Do Not Overshare”. We are going to drop the fact: not all people want to know your daily life, and most people just do not care about it. So, instead of oversharing it, just tell people the highlight of it, not all the details.

You need not to tell 24 hour worth of your daily activity or make a vote on Instagram Story for it. Enjoy your moment, and live a happier life.
