Easter bomb attacks in Sri Lanka dragged the names of two official

Investigation process for Easter bombing in Sri Lanka on April 21 was still continuing. After arresting nearly 60 suspects related to this case, Sri Lankan State Attorney, Dappula de Livera, again stated that he would drag two names of officials to court. They are non-active Chief of Police, Inspector General Pujith Jayasundara, and former Minister of Defense, Hemasiri Fernando.

Reported by AFP, they were both considered responsible cause failed to prevent the bombing that had killed 258 people during Easter celebration on 21 Aril 2019 ago. Because they don’t take the reports of bombing threats seriously and tend to ignore the report.

The prosecutor de Livera said that he had sufficient evidence to prosecute Jayasundara and Fernando. According to him, they will threatened with a maximum sentence of 52 years in prison on charges of ignoring intelligence reports to cause property damage. He also asked Sri Lanka police chief executive Chandana Wickramaratne to immediately arrest and interrogate them.

Previously Jayasundara had refused to be held responsible for failing to prevent the bombing attack. As a result, he was forced to be inactive by President Maithripala Sirisena. But he refused the decision and sued him to the Supreme Court. Until now he also still lives in the official house. While Fernando himself has decided to resign from his position shortly after the incident.

Jayasundara and Fernando had previously testified before. But both of them precisely accused the president, Sirisena who didn’t obey the rules and information that had been given related to the potential of terror attacks. Prosecutor de Livera also stated that he would immediately drag nine other high-ranking police officials after failing to prevent acts of terror.

Previously, at the Easter celebration on April 21, 2019, a terror attack was allegedly carried out by the National Tauhid Tauhid (NTJ) group. This incident killed 258 people and injured around 500 people.
