Earthquake hits northeastern Japan
A magnitude 5.5 earthquake has struck northeastern Japan. Officials say there is no threat of tsunami.
The Meteorological Agency says the quake struck at around 4:33 a.m. on Tuesday and the focus was 60 kilometers deep, off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture.
The jolt registered an intensity of 4 on the Japanese seismic scale of zero to 7 in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures.
