Does Waking Up at 4 A.M. Makes One Successful?

Waking up at 4 a.m. is a real struggle. For those who are used to wake up after 8, waking up at 4 is a challenge to tackle. However, do you know that waking up at 4 a.m. has become a trend?

It all started with a lot of public figure who stated that they wake up at 4 a.m. every day. For instance, Jennifer Aniston said she wakes up at around 4:30 and meditate right away, Tim Cook (the C.E.O of Apple) wakes up a little before 4 a.m. and even Michelle Obama revealed she goes to the gym at around 4 a.m. which means she wakes up earlier than that.

The ones who have stated they wake up at 4 a.m. are not only them though, many famous people did. All of them who have said it are famous and successful. Steve Harvey declared that rich people don’t sleep eight hours a day recently.

Is that true?

American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends people to sleep at least 7 hours every day. This causes the body to boost immunity. More importantly, if one doesn’t get enough sleep, they can get cold easily. A professor of sleep medicine at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Charles A. Czeisler, stated that waking up too early can kill your performance throughout the day. It is because only getting four hours of sleep is like getting mental impairment of being up for 24 hours.

Another Harvard professor, Robert Stickgold, also said that not getting enough sleep will change your behavior. Those who sleep less than 7 hours will be making bad decisions due to impaired mind focus.

If you’re planning to wake up at 4 a.m. you need to go to bed at least 7 hours before. This helps you to get through the day normally. However, professors recommend people to wake up at 5 a.m. instead of 4 a.m. for a better health. This doesn’t mean that waking up after 8 a.m. is good, but it’s still better to wake up not too early, which is 5 a.m.
