Disagree with the New Extradition Law Draft, Hong Kong People are Ready to Riot

Hong Kong – It  is reported that on Sunday (9/6), the biggest riot since 2003 in Hong Kong will be held soon, as half a million people in Hong Kong are expected to down the streets to urge the government to cancel an extradition law draft that allows criminal suspects to be sent to China to be judged and punished.

Today's protest will end at the office of the Legislative Council, where the council will consider the feasibility of the extradition law on Wednesday (12/9). If approved, the law is set later this month.

During this time, the independent city legal system was guaranteed under the law governing which arranging the return of Hong Kong from Britain to the Chinese government 22 years ago. However, after the local and international pressure increased for weeks, the protest is expected to cancel the extradition law draft, because unfortunately many people do not believe in the legal system in China and also the Chinese government.

According to the source, the concern about the law draft that was considered not transparent has spread from democracy and human rights groups, middle school students, church groups, the media, corporate lawyers, and business figures in Hong Kong and all over the world.

Veteran Democrat Party member, James To said to Reuters that, he believes today's action can  ultimately influence the Hong Kong government's decision, as there are things that can be played and people really feel the law draft is a setback for Hong Kong in the future.

Hong Kong Chief Executive, Carrie Lam and senior officials stated that, protection will be carried out during the legal process in China to ensure that anyone who faces political and religious persecution or torture will not be extradited.

On Saturday (8/6), a US State Department spokesman ensure the US concerns, that The United States strictly monitors and is concerned about the amendments proposed by the Hong Kong government to the law.

However, Commercial lawyer and commentator Kevin Yam hopes that many people will attend the action today as many people including senior judges have expressed deep concern about the law change.
