Diego Maradona Canceled To Attend Cannes Film Festival Due To Surgery

The glamorous annual Cannes Film Festival is currently taking place this May, where Diego Maradona was hotly anticipated to attend his life documentary movie premiere at the event on Sunday. Yet according to the director of the movie, Asif Kapadia, the football legend canceled his appearance because of the undergoing surgery caused by a shoulder injury he was suffering.

The movie which entitled “Diego Maradona” give a flashback to viewers about his remarkable career journey of being a football megastar when he played for an Italian football club Napoli and raised the Argentina national team to its golden era in the 1980s, especially when his ‘hand of God’ goal eliminated England from the throne of victory in the World Cup. Furthermore, the movie shows the ending point of his career when Maradona involved in the use of cocaine. The movie also contains unseen footage of the star’s moments partying with the Italian mafia syndicate at a club.

Maradona is said as Kapadia’s fan for his other movie “Senna”, about the death of Ayrton Senna the Brazilian Formula One racing driver. Kapadia also directed the Oscar-winning movie about the tragic life of singer Amy Winehouse.

Although Maradona was unable to attend the film festival, he promised to keep supporting the screening of the movie.
