Desperately Hiking during the Bad Weather, 7 Hikers Struck by Lightning and 1 Lost Her Life in Scotland

Scotland - It is reported by the Scottish police on BBC that, on Saturday (06/08/2019) before 6 pm, about 7 hikers were struck by lightning and unfortunately, a 55 years old woman lost her life at Na Gruagaichean, a mountain near Ben Nevis in northwest Scotland, with an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level during their hiking trip.

Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team Leader, Andy Nelson said that, the group of hikers was hiking about four kilometers northeast of Mamore Lodge, and they were at the ridge when lightning stroke. He also stated that, it was a quick 20 minutes thunderstorm however the sky looked very dark with flashes of lightning and roar in the sky that the electricity was extinguished after the lightning struck, and the ground was shaking badly.

According to the source, the woman died because of the injury she suffered, while the other women who were not identified, were immediately flown to the Belford Hospital in Fort William with safe and stable condition, even though they are currently having a shock and trauma.

The police report about this lightning incident will be submitted to the Fiscal Procurator, a Scottish service that investigates death cases that require further explanation. HM Coastguard helicopters, the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team and Scottish Air Ambulance services all helped rescue victims of lightning and gained many praises for their quick and professional responses towards this situation.

The relatives of the woman who died have been notified by the authorities and they will check the woman immediately and bring her home to be buried respectfully.
