Denuclearization, N. Korea's interest to talk slowly fades

It has been nearly 3 months since the President of U.S, Donald Trump, and the Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, last met. Both met at the demilitarized zone late June, signaling peace and hope for the denuclearization of N. Korea.

However, since then, no signal of any significance has happened between the U.S and N. Korea. Instead, the U.S only added fuel to the fire by the statement said by the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, about N. Korea. Speaking at the American Legion National Convention in the state of Indiana, Pompeo referred to N. Korea’s action as a “rogue behavior”.

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of N. Korea, Choe Son Hui, warned Pompeo not to make the situation bleaker by the statement nor should the US test N. Korea’s patience any longer. The N. Korean top official stated that the comment was “thoughtless” and “provocative”.

Hui also added that should the U.S keep stalling the time, N. Korea’s interest in realizing peace throughout the Korean Peninsula and the world without nuclear was getting shorter and shorter. Even, N. Korea was ready to withdraw all efforts to denuclearization.

N. Korea, on a side note, has been telling Washington to replace Mike Pompeo, being referred to as “diehard toxin”.

Furthermore, for the 2019 United Nations (UN) General Assembly, N. Korea was rumored to withdraw its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ri-Yong Ho, from being the keynote speaker. Instead, Pyongyang intended to send Kim Song, UN Ambassador for N. Korea.

Should the decision be final, the denuclearization of N. Korea will experience a huge step back.
