De Gea: Man Utd's performance against Newcastle was 'unacceptable'

On Sunday, Manchester United had to lose another away game to Newcastle United at St. James Park stadium. The Red Devils, the nickname given to the Manchester United, had to surrender 1-0 due to the strong low shot by Matthew Longstaff at the 72nd second, adding another miserable note to Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s coaching record.

Due to the loss, Manchester United had to sit in the 12th position with 2 points above the relegation zones. Despite its tremendous 4 - 0 win against Chelsea at the beginning of the Premier League 2019/2020 fixture, from the five previous matches, Manchester United could only reap one win while the rest four games ended in losses or ties. The recent win was when the Red Devils had to let penalty save them from Rochdale in the English Football League cup.

The desperation was felt especially by Spanish goalkeeper for Manchester United, David De Gea. The former goalkeeper for La Liga’s Atletico Madrid described the performance against Newcastle and during the season as “unacceptable”. While appreciating the defensive line, De Gea was disappointed by the "sucker punch" by Longstaff. Since joining Man Utd in 2011, the Spaniard said that the team was performing at its worst in the 2019/2020 season.

The Mancunians had all the right to be upset with the last night’s game. Not only the boring performance from both teams but it was also irritating. Manchester United’s latest £80 million central back, Harry Maguire, failed to convert a clear-range header to a goal from the corner kick.

Before winning at Old Trafford, Newcastle United’s performance was previously doubted after 5 – 0 loss against Leicester City at King Power stadium. Steve Bruce, who once also played for Manchester United as a center back, was delighted with the team’s performance last night. It took him more than 20 matches facing the Red Devils to finally beat them at Old Trafford.

For the next fixture, Manchester United is going to face Liverpool at home ground Old Trafford. Judging both teams' recent performance, the odd will be against Manchester United.
