DATABASE OF E-JOURNALS CAN BE ACCESSED BY INDONESIAN ACADEMICS FOR FREE

The Research, Technology and Higher Education Ministry has subscribed to a database of scientific e-journals, which can be accessed by researchers, university lecturers, students and non-ministerial government agencies for free.

The subscription, which costs Rp 14.82 billion (US$1.01 million) for this year, will hopefully help Indonesian academics to produce original scientific research and journals.

In a release made available to The Jakarta Post on Tuesday, the databases that universities can access for free include EBSCO (agriculture plus, computers and applied sciences, engineering source), Cangage (business and economics, education, social sciences, humanities and arts) and ProQuest (arts and humanities, biological sciences).

Non-ministerial government agencies can access two databases: Science Direct (engineering, decision sciences, environmental sciences, social sciences, energy, chemistry, earth and planetary sciences, biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology) and Scopus.

The ministry’s director for intellectual-property management, Sadjuga, said the subscription would help academics to gain access to the primary source of references for their research.

He added that he hoped the government would raise the ministry’s budget so that the ministry could subscribe to more databases in other strategic sciences.

To gain access to these databases, researchers and lecturers can request a username and password by sending an email to the ministry’s helpdesk fasilitasijurnal@ristekdikti.go.id or by accessing http://simlitabmas.ristekdikti.go.id/ejournal/Default.aspx.

University lecturers and students can also access it using their campus network via university libraries.
