Cliff collapses at a beach in California, 3 dead

On Friday (2/8), a 30-foot-cliff suddenly collapsed at Grandview Beach, Encinitas, north of San Diego. Due to the collapse, 3 people were killed, and 2 were injured by the sandstone bluff. Regarding the identities of the casualties, the local authorities decided to keep it confidential. The collapsed cliff was located 15 feet above the beach.

Grandview Beach is a famous spot in Southern California among the locals and surfers. The cliff was also famous for being the housing area for multimillion-dollar houses, seen from the effort of local authorities to prevent the cliff from falling. Tourists also often visit the cliff to enjoy the view.

The beach was populated with people when the cliff collapsed at 3 p.m., and it killed 3 people. First, it killed a woman on the scene. Meanwhile, the second and third casualties died on the way to the hospital.

One person has to be hospitalized, while the other suffered minor injuries, not needing any special treatment. Fortunately, houses beyond the cliff did not collapse as well.

There were also other victims buried under the collapsed cliff, but they were managed to be rescued on time. Local authorities had to close the area so that they could continue the SAR operation.

A loader was deployed to assist the authorities to remove the huge debris and what remained from the mound. The canine unit was also deployed to support the search for any missing people. Fortunately, there was none.

Local authorities pointed out that the disaster was natural. Collapsing cliff occur frequently in the establishment, about 3-4 times a year. However, the authorities said that this one was unprecedented since it killed 3 people in its wake.
