Clash in Prison, Dozens of Venezuelan Inmates Killed

ACARIGUA - Crisis in Venezuela is getting worse. A clash occurred in a prison in Acarigua, Venezuela when some inmates are trying to break free from the prison bar, and it turned as ugly as it can be. The prison itself was overloaded with 540 inmates, more than double of its capacity, due to the slow Venezuelan justice system.

According to the authority, it all began as a prison break attempt. However, it turned into a deadly turf war, and some of the inmates are trying to escape the prison with the opportunity.

Venezuelan special force FAES prevented the escape from happening. However, at the cost of dozens inmates’ lives.

Approximately, there were 29 inmates killed in the clash between the gangs and the police. 19 police were injured in the clash.

The clash in prison in Venezuela also happened 2 years ago, in August. Puerto Ayacucho penitentiary was the venue of the “massacre”. When a riot occurred in the jail, the police force tried to calm the situation.

Nonetheless, the situation grew darker as a shootout was heard. The result was 37 inmates were killed in the prison control, while 14 police were injured in the process.

While it is normal for police to be armed, the questions are: why are the inmates armed? How did they get the weapons? Is the Venezuelan justice system so slow and corrupted that even weapon distribution reaches the prison?
