Churches Fight Immigrant Deportation in U.S.

The U.S. Federal Agency, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), is already started doing their job to deport illegal immigrant on July 14 2019. The action is taken under the order of President Donald Trump, who has already swore to deport illegal immigrant. ICE troops keep their eyes on approximately 2.000 illegal immigrant with final deportation orders in 10 major cities. Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and Sacramento are included in their targeted places. The churches in many parts of the U.S. country won’t stay silent about the ICE raids. Their religious leaders has been showing their concern about this nightmare period for immigrants inside Sunday sermont or through concrete actions.

In Houston and Los Angeles, churches offered a safe place for immigrants who are afraid of getting arrested. One of those churches is First Baptist Church of Maywood on East 57th Street, LA. Pastor Melvin Valiente from the First Baptist church condemned the order given by Trump as the persecution of immigrant. It is because the ICE raids are spreading fear among the living immigrants and people can’t just live with it. Houston made a move through the Rev. Robert Stearns from Living Water Church. He provided 25 churches as sanctuary for immigrants while they’re sorting their legal status.

Miami’s churches spread fliers outside churches about immigrants’ rights in arrest. Meanwhile, in Chicago, a priest talk about the good heart of border activist who’s accused of hiding the illegal immigrants. Other churches in the city advertised deportation defence workshop. Chicago’s archbishop, Cardinal Blase Cupich, wrote a letter to Archdiocese priests about not letting any immigration officials into churches without identification or warrant. After all, the humanity is still going strong in U.S. society. The Churches act out of compassion served as the hope for immigrants.
