Chinese Students Are Warned About Studying in the US

The burning trade war between China and the US has affected the education programs for both countries, as US authorities recently tightened regulations to accept Chinese students at American universities. Because of this China also warned its students to reconsider before studying in the US due to the huge risk of their visas being denied and delayed for a long time.

State television in China said accordingly to the Ministry of Education that students seeking to study in the States had encountered problems with limited duration of their visas and an increase in visa refusals.

The measure taken by the US was intended to prevent China from stealing technology and intellectual property that has been a great concern amid the trade war. FBI Director Christopher Wray said that Beijing has pioneered a societal approach to steal innovation from the US by using Chinese graduates and researchers in the country.

China’s Ministry of Education spokesman, Geng Shuang, said on Monday (6/4) that obstacles set by the US are unnecessary and education circles in both countries strongly opposed this action because it discontinues the people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Last month, Trump’s fellow Republicans in Congress introduced legislation that prohibits granting student or research visas to the US for anyone sponsored or employed by the Chinese military.
