China's tech company Tencent Holdings to expand services in Southeast Asia and South Korea

After entering Japan’s cloud service market within last month, Tencent Holdings is currently looking for the next potential comrades in Southeast Asia and South Korea. The China-based tech giant firm plans to offer cloud-based games to the countries’ market.

Cloud-based gaming is really convenient for gamers since they can instantly run games from the cloud to their gadgets such as console, smartphone, and computer. With the cloud, users don’t have to download games again and it saves the data storage.

The large market of Southeast Asian is being the target of Tencent Cloud since users in the region are less attached to playing games on Xbox, Playstation or other consoles, according to a product manager at Tencent Cloud’s gaming solutions Li Guolong cited by Reuters.

Tencent Cloud which is the second biggest cloud service provider in China is now chasing the country’s largest cloud provider Alibaba Cloud from Alibaba Group Holdings. According to industry researcher IDS, Tencent Cloud has a market share of 11% while Alibaba’s local cloud market reached 43%.

On July 2019, Tencent announced the company has joined in Japan’s cloud industry, challenging the U.S big companies, Amazon and Microsoft.

Tencent is motivated to expand business overseas and explore all prospects by this year, said Li Guolong.
