China participates in joint purchase of corona vaccine
The Chinese government participated in the framework for the international joint purchase of vaccines for the new coronavirus on the 8th and announced on the 9th.
Until now, it has not been clear whether or not to participate. It seems that the aim is to show an attitude of international cooperation in the distribution of vaccines. It also seems to be aimed at showing the difference from the United States, which has announced that it will not participate in its own procurement.
Hua Chunying, the director of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on the 9th, "The purpose of participation is to promote the fair distribution of vaccines by action and to ensure the delivery of vaccines to developing countries."
Group purchasing is a mechanism called "COVAX Facility" led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and others. Invest in multiple vaccine candidates under development and distribute them fairly among participating countries if they are successfully put into practical use. The aim is to prevent the buying up of vaccines by well-funded developed countries and to spread them to developing countries.
The deadline for participation was 18th last month, and a total of 156 countries and regions, including Japan and the European Union (EU) countries, had decided to participate.
