Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 Moon Landing

50 years after the Apollo 11 moon landing, its impact in sci-tech and space exploration field is still amazing. This moon landing is not only an inspiration for U.S., but also the people in all over the world. July 16 marks the 50 years after the spaceflight began at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center. Then the Apollo 11 moon landing by astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin happened on July 20, 1969. NASA encourages people to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 moon landing through some events, TV programs, and online content they have arranged.

The celebration began since July 16, when space party is already started at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum. This party will be held until July 20. The space party brings back the display of Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit which has been hidden. Then the biggest celebration is on July 20 when the museum will be open until 2 a.m. The visitors can celebrate together at the exact time when the astronauts step their foot on the moon. The time will be 10:56 p.m., according to Washington, D.C. timezone. The Museum of Flight in Seattle also has an exhibition called “Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission” until September 2. Among the things the museum shows, there are 20 Smithsonian’s Apollo 11 artifacts. Those are including the medical kit flown on the Apollo 11 mission, Aldrin’s extravehicular gloves, and the Columbia, NASA Apollo 11 command module. There are also artifacts from other NASA spaceflight, as well as Russian spaceflight. On July 20, there will be a weekend festival at Museum of Flight.

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Titusville, Florida, celebrates in different way. A film screening will be held to mark the 50th anniversary, which is a launch footage of the spaceflight. The center will also have a special event and party related to the Apollo 11 mission. Meanwhile, there are a long list of celebration at Space Center Houston, including space labs and special tours. They will also have a fun late-night tram tours to the Apollo Mission Control Center. The biggest celebration will be at U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, Abama. The center will have the special exhibition called “Apollo: When We Went to the Moon” and concert.

Besides of visiting the events, you can also watch special TV programs provided for the celebration. The list of the programs and the time are available at NASA Official Website. As for you who don’t live in the U.S., you don’t have to worry. There will be an online celebration on July 23 through NASA’s social media channels. Those channels are including Instagram, Snapchat, and Tumblr.
