US – China Trade War: False labels “Made-in-Vietnam” on Chinese products to avoid Washington’s tariff

Many exporters and importers choose a high risk to dodge the US tariff by using false labels “Made-in-Vietnam” on Chinese goods to send them to America, Europe, Japan and other countries.

On Sunday, Vietnam government through its official website announced mostly products of textile, seafood, agricultural, tiles, honey, steel and iron, aluminium and timber were illegally labelled and transferred.

Since the trade war between Beijing and Washington has happened, Vietnam customs have found many cases regarding the false of origin and the illegal shipping transit of goods. Senders illegally re-labelled Chinese product and applied for Vietnamese product-origin certificates.

As one of the biggest markets for Vietnamese goods, the government do not want to lose the U.S. Vietnam officials would take serious actions to crack down the issue by increasing punishment on trade-related fraud.

Do Van Sinh, a standing member of the National Assembly’s economic committee said Washington may give sanctions to Vietnam for allowing fake labels Chinese product to send to America.

Currently Vietnam has faced inspection from the U.S after Trump administration added the country to watchlist for currency manipulation issues.

Vietnam became the first Asian government who bravely announced to public about the issue since the economy war between Trump and Xi increased this year.

Pham Binh Minh, the foreign minister of Vietnam said the government has formed a panel in response to the trade war.
