“I Will Not Hesitate to Invite Trump to Indonesia”: Indonesian President

The Indonesian President Joko Widodo said in an interview with the Associated Press on Friday (7/26) that it will be a pleasure for the government to invite Donald Trump to Indonesia. As it will be for all Indonesians as well to welcome him, he added.

During the last G-20 summit in Japan, the conviviality between Widodo who is popularly known as Jokowi and Trump was caught on camera. Just like when the two leaders talked intimately while attending a special session of Women’s Empowerment at the summit. Through social media, Jokowi also shared a photograph of him and other world leaders enjoying sweets which apparently shared by the US President.

“President Donald Trump shares sweets with others”, Jokowi came with this caption on his official Twitter account.

In 2017, Jokowi had also shown his enthusiasm to invite the US president in their first-ever bilateral meeting in Hamburg. He directly told Trump that the latter’s ‘millions of fans’ in Indonesia were eager to see the former business tycoon visit the world’s largest Muslim population country, as reported by The Jakarta Post.

The invitation prompted another question of Jokowi’s perspective on Trump’s administration that perceived as anti-Muslim when he rolled out a policy that banned immigrants from several Muslim majority countries come to the US.

In response, the Indonesian president said the world leaders must refrain in dealing with discrimination that embodied with religious, racial, and ethnic issues.

Despite the invitation, the presidential staff confirmed that all meetings will be adjusted to the two countries’ agenda accordingly.
