Carl's Jr, Hardee's join the green campaign, use Beyond Meat

Following KFC and Burger King audacious step to vegan meat, American fast-food franchises Carl’s Jr and Hardee's also would like to dive in. Both restaurants, owned by CKE Group as the parent company, will offer a new breakfast option that will see its meat be plant-based.

Revealed on Wednesday, with Beyond Famous Star burger, using plant-based meat from Beyond Meat, Carl’s Jr succeeded in selling 6.7 million units, making it the most lucrative product in two years. Therefore, Carl’s Jr and Hardee’s counterparts located in the eastern half of the United States (U.S) will use Beyond Meat as well.

Offering plant-based meat for the daily meals, CKE revealed that Carl’s Jr will get two new, while Hardee's will get four. Carl’s Jr was the first one to introduce the two new menus on 18 December. Hardee's will have to wait until 30 December to unveil the new four menus.

For Carl’s Jr, it presented two new menus: “Beyond Sausage Burrito” and “Beyond Sausage Egg & Cheese Biscuit”. Both use “Beyond Sausage” from Beyond Meat.

Hardee's will also feature these two menus from Carl’s Jr in its menu book, in addition to “Original Beyond Thickburger” and “Beyond Sausage biscuit”. Beyond Sausage biscuit will remove eggs from its recipe, making it more palatable for the vegans.

However, CKE warned that not all locations will sell these new plant-based menus.

The shift to plant-based meat is not said to appease the vegans alone. Rather, the emergence of plant-based food companies such as Impossible Foods and Beyond Burger is an answer to the world’s growing concern for health and environmental issues if they keep consuming “real” meat.
