Car inundated by the flood? Fix it or sell it?

As Indonesia is facing the rainy season since New Year’s Day, Jakarta stole the spotlight as the capital of Indonesia is being hit by the flood. Various videos showed that houses and vehicles, especially cars, could not even escape their demise in the face of the torrential rain and flood. Cars were drowned and drifted by the flow.

Fortunately, some stayed in one piece. But, inundated by the flood, there are only two options: repair it or sell it. While both options are perfectly acceptable, you need to know the pros and cons, right?

If the flood gets to the car’s cabin floor, of course, a total check-up is required.

The repair costs variably, from just a hundred thousand Rupiah to millions. So, considering the cost, some people chose the latter. Even though they want to sell it, they need to fix it first so that the price won’t go down terribly. After they fix it, the cars need to be tested to know whether the damage stays or not.

But, reparation is only possible for non-premium cars. For inundated premium cars, from Rp700 million and above, with the sophisticated technology in it, it is better to be sold because they cost a lot for reparation and the spare parts.

It is advisable for these premium cars to be covered by insurance in the event of force majeure.

Unfortunately, for inundated cars, the price could go even lower than 50 percent. That goes even after these cars have been repaired. Even worse, the market is not showing a “friendly atmosphere” for secondhand cars.

While it is unfortunate, it is inadvisable to buy a secondhand car having been inundated by the flood. But, if you have no choice, it is better to be “aware” of the condition of the car. That means you need to know what happened with the cars and the reparations needed for it. The extra cost for the reparation.

We advise you know the cost of the reparation before selling your car. If the cost is cheaper, then it is better to repair your car and vice versa.
